Being critical involves questioning and evaluating “received wisdom”. It is often difficult, however, to recognise received wisdom because it masquerades as common sense or “just the way things naturally are”.
Artistic works—including stories, poems, films, paintings, sculptures, etc.—can help to reveal received wisdom through the creative connections they make. Artistic works draw our attention to dimly perceptible relations, they envision the familiar in different and unusual ways, and they invite us into alternative relationships with our surroundings (both physical and ideological). Creative ecocritical connections attempt to do all this and more, and we share some of our projects with you here in words and images.
